3 Things You Must Do Before Beginning Your Home Search

June 4, 2014
Once the decision is made to buy a home for the first time, or any time really, most people just want to go online and start searching for the perfect property. It’s exciting to dream and try to picture you and your loved ones in a new home and that excitement is great, but there are at least three things that you really need to do before looking, getting your hopes up, and then find disappointment for not taking the necessary pre-search steps.

For more daily real estate advice, whether you are selling, buying, or just thinking about it, follow Heller The Home Seller on Facebook, Twitter and our brand new Pinterest account.

Here are the items you should complete before binning to search for your new home:

  • 1. Gather all financial documents. Lenders are going to want W2’s, tax documents, and pay stubs — just to start. The paperwork should date back at least 2 years. They will be looking particularly close at your debt-to-income ratio, which shouldn’t exceed 43%.
  • 2. Check your credit score. Don’t be surprised by what the lenders tell you about your own credit. There could be some insignificant blip that you could correct and have a higher score if you do the research for yourself the first time around.
  • 3. Research the housing market you are looking to buy into. Sift through different neighborhoods and median home prices so you won’t waste time looking in areas that don’t fit your needs or your budgets.

Now, go get yourself qualified for a loan and start your home search! If you’re ready to sell your home, have questions about your real estate needs, or you need a recommendation on who to work with while trying find a new home in the San Diego area — just contact Heller the Home Seller’s team today here at askhellerthehomeseller.com.
